Super job on Saturday Herd!
As we continued building our base this weekend, we also had a little fun working on how to effectively communicate with each other out on the road, as well as with other vehicles we share the road with. You may have felt a little silly yelling "CAR UP!" or "CAR BACK!" when there really was no car in sight, or shouting "HOLE!" when there really was no pot holes to be found in the spin room...But, the idea was to get you to see how important it is out on the road to communicate clearly, and effectively. Knowing what to do and say in a variety of situations will not only keep you safer, but those around you as well.
For this weeks Mission Moment, we road for a few people. Mentor Jillian Matundan, a.k.a. "Game On," shared her reasons why she joined Team in Training and how much TNT motivates her to keep pedaling for a cure for all Cancers.
We rode Saturday for Jillian's dad, Dr. Rodolfo G. Matundan, as well as Bob "Coop" Cooper, John F. Mahoney, and Tina Gonzalez. Jillian also spoke of her former co-worker who celebrated her 15 years in remission from Leukemia Deb Lauria.
Jillian told her dad's story, and referenced advice her dad would often give her. Her dad would say to her, "What you can do? You're here. Period." This is a good piece of advice to keep in your back pocket for when life challenges you. Ask yourselves this question whenever you are training on your own and maybe struggling, or if you're out on the road for hours on end on a group ride feeling like you can go no more... Just think of Jillian's dad and say to yourself, "What I can do? I am here. Period."
Taking strength from those you ride for—the lessons they have taught you—they will give you more strength and courage than you could ever imagine. Keep those people close to your hearts, they will always be there to help guide you, as you in turn, have helped guide them at one point or another.
Keep up the endurance rides this week, keeping your heart rate no higher than 80%. Remember, if you can't breathe in and out through your nose comfortably with you mouth closed, you are working too hard.
We will continue base building with another endurance ride this Saturday, and we will be increasing the duration by 15 minutes.
Make sure you get your fundraising letters out, and your websites up and running if you haven't done so already! Being proactive is the key to success!
