Congratulations to all of you who could make it out this morning to our first Team in Training group ride. You all did an outstanding job! It was wonderful to meet some new participants, and to see your enthusiasm for the journey we are about to begin together as we help to find a cure for blood cancers. It was also great to see some "old" faces returning from past cycling seasons!
I would also like to thank all of our coaches and mentors who volunteer their time year after year, and for being the amazing and dedicated team players that they are. For all of you new participants, you are in great hands.
This morning our ride was based on setting goals for ourselves. Whether it was a long-term goal like finding a cure cancer, or a short-term goal such as making it through your first spin class, each of us had some time to reflect on these goals and to think about how we will achieve them. Now, all we have to do is stay focused on these goals we've set as the season progresses.
Each of us have different reasons why we have joined TNT, most of them being for personal reasons. Today we rode in memory of my best friend Allison who lost her battle to cancer on February 13, 2012. Although the wounds of losing someone who I was so close to are still very fresh, I take the many lessons I've learned from her, and her battle with cancer. I hold these lessons very close to my heart, they are what keep me going. I know she was looking down upon us all this morning with a big smile on her face knowing we were still fighting the fight for her, when she no longer can. This is why we do what we do. In hopes, that no one else has to go through what people like Allison, and their families go through when their loved ones are stricken with cancer.
We also went over the importance of base building this morning. Please read the packets I handed out and remember to keep your workouts in the endurance zone (no higher than 80 percent of your max) for the next 4 weeks. I will hand out those packets to those who were not present today next week. Also, if you didn't do your Resting Heart Rate, try and do it this week and email me your average number for 3 days. Those who did give me theirs, I will get you your numbers and percentages sometime this week.
I look forward to the weeks ahead with each and every one of you. Again, great job today! We'll see you, and hopefully some more team mates next week!
GO TEAM!
