We are in the final stretch, also known as the taper (our favorite part of training). What that means is you should still be riding, modestly, whenever you can. Once our bikes ship, ride either a spare bike or stationary bike at the gym. Eating, resting and hydrating are key components to your taper. Make sure you are doing all of these. Carbs are a good thing for you right now :-)
Congratulations to all of you! Not only have you trained and prepared for a tremendous ride, you've made a difference in the lives of families affected by blood cancers. As you know, the funds you raise go to finding a cure and the impact you've made on others - that's priceless!
As you pack and prepare for the trip, make sure to keep your cycling necessities, things you can't bike without - (like pedals, shoes, helmet, gloves, glasses) in your carry on, just in case. We are all arriving at different times - so our traditional Friday night dinner might be difficult to schedule. On Saturday we'll do a 20ish mile ride - to test out the altitude. I'll send out a tentative schedule for the weekend later.
If anyone has a spare bike and wants to ride this weekend, Peter Miranda will be setting up some rides for both Saturday and Sunday. If you are interested in joining Peter, please contact him directly at peter.miranda@momentive.com. The rides will most likely be longer than what your taper ride should be, so if you do decide to join him we suggest either shortening the ride to accommodate or riding very easily. The ride will be unsupported so make sure you bring all that you will need for the ride and can carry everything with you from start to finish.
