It was about time!

Last Saturday we finally got out of the spin room, and were able to hit the streets! Woohoo! We had a nice sized group of current participants, coaches and mentors, some alumni and we also had a few riders that debuted in their first group ride ever! Kudos to all of you! This weeks ride will be a bit more difficult, but I know you are all up for the challenge. Remember, we are The Herd from Upstate NY/VT, and we SPIT ON HILLS!

This past week we rode in memory of, and in honor of three dear friends.

Tahoe 2013 participant Calla talked about her two dear friends, Sue and Mike. Sue and Mike, a beautiful couple, were both we stricken with cancer, and both lost their battles. Sue and Mike did have the chance to get married before Sue lost hers. Then, soon thereafter, Mike's cancer came back, and he too lost his battle. As Calla talked about Sue and Mike, and about their love for each other, you could see how much they meant to Calla and to each other. And, now Sue and Mike are back together, but this time in a cancer-free world.

Together we ride in memory of Sue and Mike.

We also rode for TNT alumni Lauren's (a.k.a. Tippy) dad Tony. Lauren has done a few TNT events over the past few years, Tahoe included (2011). For every event Lauren has done, both her parents have come out to cheer her on. If you ever have had the chance to spend some time with the three of them during these events, you can tell what a close knit family this is. A family filled with love and support.
Tony was recently diagnosed with Neuroendocrine Cancer while having a colonoscopy. The diagnosis came as a shock to Lauren and her entire family, but the doctor's at Dana Farber seem to be very optimistic. They believe they have removed all of the cancer, but there is still the chance that it will come back. For now, Tony does not have to go through any treatments such as chemo or radiation. He will have to go back every 6 months to be rechecked.
We ride in honor of Tony, sending him and his entire family, positive thoughts and prayers. We also ride with thoughts of Lauren to give her strength and courage during this difficult time.
